I have ZERO experience sewing, but that did not stop me from making a couple stupid sock creatures. They didn't really turn out like the one in the picture, mainly because I am so new at this. Regardless, both kids love their animals and think they are so funny. I highly recommend the book.
I am a novice, so this book helped me see how to create more of a body shape and keep the stitches hidden if that is the look I wanted. I don't know how he did it with a sewing machine as it's just as fast by hand and easy. But, again.I'm a novice.
Great book, it has an edge to it---not your typical crafting book. I loved the photos, can't comment on the instructions---this was just a fun purchase.
The directions in the book are complete, well diagrammed and easy to follow. This book is just plain fun. I've always thought they were boring. He was such a hit, all my siblings are going to get one. I'm sure it's got nothing to do with my inexperienced sewing, but most likely has everything to do with the character and the personality of each creature surfacing as they take form. These characters, though, have won my heart.
My imagination takes flight when I sit down to work on these guys. I have never cared for sock-monkeys at all. The book and gallery offer a lot of ideas, but I didn't get stalled there. I took one look at the cover of this book and fell madly in love with "Wronky", the blue critter. Having purchased the book, I set about making my first creature, a birthday gift for a brother. My designs all seem to have a propensity towards very intense, wild eyes and impossibly crooked mouths.
They are the alter egos of my siblings, after all.
This book has patterns for stupid sock creatures (aka sock monsters). Here's what's cool about it: no measuring required, patterns are fast and easy (I made one of the tougher ones and it took maybe 2 hours), if you screw up a sock monster it becomes part of its charm. This book is fun and so is making sock monsters. I see many stupid sock creatures in my future.
